Soroptimist Redwood Grove

The Soroptimist Redwood Grove was conceived during the presidency of Sophia Clarke (1971-72) as a special project to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of Soroptimist International. On September 30, 1971, the Redwood Grove was dedicated and 50 trees were planted.

The grove is truly a partnership with the city of Pomona Park Department. The city has been instrumental with the design of the grove and provides major improvements and custodial care of the grove; the club provides financial support to partially offset the custodial care of the grove.

The National Arbor Day Foundation honored SIPC with one of 12 Project Awards presented in 1987. Sophia Clarke attended the ceremony in Nebraska City, Nebraska, on April 25, 1987.

Over the years, walkways, benches, a memorial and picnic area, located on the hill, have been added to the grove’s peaceful environment. Nearly 600 commemorative bricks line the main walkway and over 200 trees are now planted in the grove.

Nature has been good to the Soroptimist Redwood Grove. Everyone is invited to enjoy a moment of inner peace by visiting the grove.
